Just Desserts, presented by Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, is a celebration of local Women held, of course, during Women's History month. This event honors Nassau's outstanding women of achievement as well as benefiting the Nassau Hurricane Recovery Fund, which helps the victims of Superstorm Sandy.

As the name implies, attendees of Just Desserts were privileged to sample some of the best offerings and signature dishes by numerous top bakers. Some of these delectables were almost too beautiful to eat (almost!).

Although one could be lost amongst the decadent desserts, the focus of the evening shone through as thirteen extraordinary women who call Nassau home were honored. Despite their careers, family life, or health issues, these women exemplify what it means to be selfless and generous.

Some help their neighbors through the ongoing recovery from Superstorm Sandy. Some have spent most of their lives volunteering with the disadvantaged or physically-challenged. Many focus their endless advocacy on children. All show an example of how we can help others for the betterment of the community.

The sweetness of the desserts enjoyed by all was a fitting undertone to the warmth that emanated through the recounted deeds of these extraordinary few. In summation, it was an evening showcasing gratitude and respect to a select group of women who truly earned it.
