Founder's Room First Anniversary
The Paramount - Huntington, NY
Thursday, May 16, 2013

With the recent release of The Great Gatsby movie, there is a renewed vigor surrounding the roaring twenties. A seemingly countless array of people wish to play the part of a Jay Gatsby or a Daisy Buchanan and pretend, if only for an evening, to live in that definitive era. The Paramount’s Founder’s Room is more than willing to fulfill that desire. Recently, they celebrated their first anniversary with a little more pomp than one would find on any other given night, though the prohibition-era theme is a constant at this charming Huntington hideaway.

Upon arrival, guests are directed down a hall to an intimately lit room ripped out of a history book. The surroundings are awash with period-specific décor, relics and paraphernalia. The theme shouts “speakeasy” from all ends of this member’s only room. It allows a glance into a time when alcohol was illegal, and moonshine and bootleggers were only spoken of in hushed tones. The stunning performers and servers helped to complete the time travel excursion, with flapper girls circulating, offering delicious food tastings, and burlesque-style entertainers abound.

There were a wide variety of seafood offerings, such as lobster rolls, crab cakes, various sushi and fried oysters. While the seafood was prominent, there was a nice selection of other items, including some amazing baby lamb chops. The celebration also included an open bar, with choice cocktails to go along with the incredible food.

Following the tasting, two performers entertained the attendees with a burlesque routine, with risqué dancing and sensational singing befitting a prohibition-era soiree. The party however didn’t end here; guests continued to the theater area, where John Oates, of Hall & Oates fame, performed. He delivered a wonderful, charismatic performance, reaching out to the audience and getting everyone involved.

To bring the evening of spectacular food and entertainment to a close, there was a special parting gift given to the guests. True to the speakeasy theme, small liquor-filled flasks were handed to guests as a memento of the Founder’s Room First Anniversary. This was a pleasant surprise that couldn’t help but bring to mind the rumrunners of days gone by.
