4th Annual Tasting Event To Benefit SPOHNC
Stuart Thomas Manor- Farmingdale, NY
Tuesday, April 30, 2013

The 4th Annual Tasting Event To Benefit SPOHNC was held at the handsome Stuart Thomas Manor. SPOHNC (Support for People with Oral and Head and Neck Cancer) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to raise awareness and meet the needs of oral and head and neck cancer patients.

SPOHNC is a self-help organization involved in the development of programs of support. As such, it can have an enormous positive impact on meeting the psychosocial needs of patients as well as preserving, restoring and promoting physical and emotional health.

Started by an oral cancer survivor, Nancy Leupold in 1991, when there were very few resources available, SPOHNC has grown to become the only national organization of its kind. Through their “Outreach Program”, they have over 120 chapters located throughout the country, a National Survivor Volunteer Network of 200 strong, two publications, a “News From SPOHNC” newsletter eight times a year, a newly redeveloped website at www.spohnc.org, and a presence on Facebook.

Several of their chapters throughout the country have special events to promote and raise awareness of this disease during Oral And Head And Neck Cancer Awareness month in April. The New Hyde Park, Stony Brook and Syosset chapters’ “Chef Tasting Event” featured many trays of delicious foods donated by chefs from local restaurants throughout Long Island specially prepared for these patients in mind. One of the side effects from treatment is swallowing difficulties that ultimately change a person’s lifestyle forever. Funds raised from this event were donated to SPOHNC to help carry out its mission.
