Saturday, July 19, 2014

This year's Annual Vanderbilt Clam Bake started off with a private showing of the newly renovated Planetarium. The timeless Vanderbilt Planetarium that continues to delight audiences of all ages, received a $4-million makeover – including new seating, carpeting, lobby and gift shop – with a cutting-edge technological update. This charity event was held to support the Vanderbilt's many educational programs.

As the evening continued, guests were treated to wonderfully traditional "Clam Bake" fare including an assortment of fresh seafood, steamed lobsters, mussels, little neck clams, steamers, delicious BBQ chicken, and fabulous clam chowder as well as a bartender pouring wine, beer, sangria and soft drinks. Attendees danced under the stars to the sounds of live music while taking in the breathtaking views of the historic Vanderbilt mansion which overlooks the Northport Bay.

Lance Reinheimer, Executive Director encouraged attendees to participate in the chip-shot contest and experience the charm of Willie Vanderbilt's original estate golf course. After this exciting contest, he gave a complimentary speech thanking guests for attending and introducing various notable patrons. This wonderful summer evening came to a close with Italian pastries and cookies, fresh fruit and coffee.
